I always wonder about how Uther managed to fight off all those powerful sorcerers anyway. I've seen some people speculate about how he may have promised others that he would spare them if they fought for him, and then turned on them eventually. I have some trouble with that though, because his hatred of magic is so strong I have trouble believing he would EVER willing ally with it post-Igraine. Especially just after her passing. And even if he did, surely people would start catching on that he was betraying his allies and then he'd run out of them!
And another thing! How come Nimueh just couldn't magic them away? She seems quite able to come and go as she pleases. Maybe she wasn't as powerful back then, but it just seems like she should have been able to go after Uther earlier or help more of the magical people to safety. Maybe she did. Who knows. I kind of hope she isn't dead, because I feel like her story wasn't over yet.
As for Real Life, yeah, I agree. What's that quote? An eye for an eye and the whole world ends up blind. Death for death just doesn't seem like the answer, ESPECIALLY when there's even the smallest chance that you've gotten it wrong.
